Inflation and geopolitical tensions slowed down the sales of garden machinery and equipment in 2023, affected by a surplus of inventories and also by a lower propensity to purchase by end users and by unfavorable climatic conditions.
According to data released by Comagarden, the trade association headed by FederUnacoma, the market has in fact suffered a contraction of nine percent on an annual basis, going from one million and 470 thousand vehicles sold in 2022 to one million and 333 thousand last year year. The decline affected almost all the main product types, from lawn mowers to pruners and snow blowers, with the latter two categories showing the worst performances with declines of 48 and 58 percent respectively on an annual basis. On the other hand, garden shredders, hedge trimmers, blowers and robotic lawnmowers went against the trend and therefore grew, with increases compared to 2022 of between three and 18 percent.
